In May, we made a quick but exciting trip to Washington D.C. to visit our old friends Peter and Vicki Jennings. Then we were off to Haverford College near Philadelphia to visit my brother Rob, his partner Julie, and their nifty gang of cats.

It's great to see old friends, especially in their lovely home in Chevy Chase

First stop - shopping in Old Town Alexandria

The Torpedo Factory is just what it says, but now it's an art complex instead of a munitions factory.

We have lunch at a charming French cafe in Alexandria

We visit the Textile Museum in downtown D.C.

The newly-opened Museum of the American Indian is one of the highlights of the trip - the building itself is shaped like a footprint

Each tribe has a council that provides art and artifacts of that particular culture to the museum

The interior and architecture are stunning
