February Foodstock with Ramesh

We spent a wonderful long weekend with our friend Ramesh from Portland - it had been far too long since he visited us. The first night, we invited other friends to join us for dinner at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, Picante Grill. Among the guests were long-time Foodwine list members and friends, Mary Hogan and Dora Guerra. Also joining us were Sandra and Bill Kurtin and Margaret Hall, who works with the UN and is soon to be departing for a posting in Indonesia.

Dora surprised us with a photo taken in 1994 at a San Antonio foodstock 14 years ago! From let to right, Dick and Chris Marksberry, David and Margie LaRo, Michael and Lyn Belisle, Dora Guerra, Ramesh, Charlie LaRo, and Mary Hogan.

Shiner Bock is the obvious favorite beverage at dinner.

Yummy enchiladas - a specialty of the Picante Grill chef.

The following morning, we head for our vacation house in Rockport, Texas on the Gulf coast - here we enjoy lunch at Moondog's by the bay.

Ramesh is a serious and talented photographer, and we stop often to do some bird watching and take pictures. Rockport has a number of bird sanctuaries and is the home of the endangered whooping cranes during the winter months.

Bright and early Sunday morning, we arrive at Fulton Harbor to board the Skimmer, a boat for "serious birders" that will take us to the whooping crane nests. Captain Tommy Moore knows pretty much everything about the whoopers and their habits and habitat.
