You know you are a true Texan if . . .

you drive to Austin in 100F weather to attend a hot sauce festival in August!

The 12th Annual Hot Sauce Festival was held in Waterloo Park in downtown Austin - it benefited the Food Bank, and there were cases of food donated at the gate.

Dozens of hot sauce vendors participated in hopes of winning the People's Choice Award.

We met Luna, a very smart dog, whose attitude reflects the way most of us felt in the heat.

Ristra vendors were there - their prices were reasonable. $5 for a 1 foot ristra, and $15 for a three foot ristra.

The lines moved quickly - shade was at a premium.

Michael, Bill and Carol find a booth that pretty much sums it up -

The band was great - they were sponsored by Slick Willie's Pool Hall - make that "Slick Willie's *Family* Pool Hall".

Michael and Brother Rees take notes on the salsas and the music.

Help - we are melting! And the beer is getting warm.

So many hot sauces, so little time -

As we drove away, the bumper sticker that was on the car in front of us said "KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD". Here's to good ol' weird Austin, to Texas, and to great hot sauce - our personal favorite was Texas Lava! Stay tuned for the results of the hot sauce festival.
