Back to Teaching and Learning

I have been a teacher for more than thirty-five years. It is unbelievably rewarding. For most of those years, I've taught art to high school students from all kinds of backgrounds. There is such a wonderfully creative atmosphere in our classroom - it inspires me!. Here I am (center) with my students, Blanca Rosa (left) and Gabriel (right). We're preparing marbleized paper to use for haiku journals (see our classroom project link).

I teach at The Academy of Creative Education, and I also teach technology, graphics, webmastering and desktop publishing in the same classroom. Learning about webmastering is a great way to synthesize art and computers. My students have designed some very creative webpages as part of their second semester final project .

The year 2000 was the absolute best in my entire career as an educator - here's why!

Cory and Danny, two technology design students, put up a lobby display of their first semester final - a corporate package design. During second semester, students put these corporate packages on a website, or they might choose to develop a publication.

Another program my students and I have developed is called ACE, Ink. It is a graphic design service for the NEISD community and it is funded by the North East Educational Foundation through a grant I wrote two years ago. We just learned that we have been selected to be fully funded for an expansion of this service by the Foundation. This year, we will be designing and producing our own workbooks for elementary students, as well as our own literary magazine, TorchLit.

Visit us at our ACE Website. My webmastering students help me keep it updated to reflect the latest learning and community service activities at the Academy -

As part of my ongoing technology training, I recently completed an invitational ITP certification program which is a unique collaboration between North East ISD and Texas A&M University. Through a combination of hands-on and on-line courses, nine of us within the district did intensive on-line coursework individually and as a team, completed the certification process.
