The State of the Gardens on May 1st, 2000 - left, the birdbath rock garden has really been expanded - this is what it looked like last year. Right, the lavender, lemongrass, and canna are blooming. Below left, a reworked overgrown bed became a vegetable garden, thanks to some tree cutting and a trellis. The birdhouse gourds are taking over, and we have already had some of the fresh squash. Below center, the koi pond on the deck contines to be one of my favorite places. Below right, a new space against the western fenceline - a meditation garden with a new bamboo screen, some black bamboo, and some nandina - this space will continue to develop over the summer.
