On a warm July weekend, three intrepid couples from
the Foodwine list met in the heart of the Texas Hill Country
to tour some wineries and enjoy good food and the company of good
friends. Ellen Court and Roger Moss from Dallas, Chris and
Dick Marksberry from Houston, and Michael and Lyn Belisle
from San Antonio arrived on a Friday evening in the town of Fredricksburg,
settled by German immigrants in 1846. A rock's throw from Luckenback,
Fredricksburg's attractions include the Fredricksburg Herb Farm, the
Admiral Nimitz Museum, a Dulcimer Factory, and lots of German
restaurants. Here are some photographs from the weekend
mini-food/wine/beerstock.
Ellen and Roger explore one of
the many herbal paths at the Fredricksburg Herb
Farm. It was one of our favorite places. They also
have a small tea shop there as well as a retail
outlet for plants, books, and herbal
products.
Michael Belisle makes friends
with the Herb Cat who is trying to hide in the
artemesia and lavender.
Ellen and Chris go into the
Wildseed Farm, the largest wildflower seed farm in
the US - in the middle of the summer, only about
one fourth of the fields were in bloom, but it was
still a beautiful display/
Roger and Ellen sample the wines
at Becker Vineyards near Fredricksburg. They had an
incredible Merlot jelly which all of us liked a
lot.
