Earlier that day, we visited the airport
to extend the rental car contract - a lucky thing, since
there were no more cars available, and few flights
out.
|
More evidence of boarding up at Fausto's
the local grocery store. This is an "essential business,"
so we know the situation is serious.
|
On the drive back to the house, we see
reporters at the Southernmost Point taking pictures of
the waves washing over the seawall.
|
We evacuate early the next morning -
Michael takes a break from the driving rain on the front
porch of the house as we stack and load luggage - there
is no chance for our scheduled flight, so we drive off
the Key instead.
|
The streets are awash, but we make it up
the highway without serious incident . . .
|
and on the way out of town, we see this
sign - "Michelle, Put Up or Shut Up", propped up against
a giant chicken. Good-bye, Key West - here's to better
weather next time!
