Menger Hotel Mini-Foodstock, August 3

What a pleasure it was to welcome Lynn Penfield and her grandson, Zach, to San Antonio. Lynn is from Corona, CA and Zach is from Aurora CO. We met for a mini-Foodstock brunch at the historic Menger Hotel where they were staying. As is so often the case, we felt as if we had known each other forever. Attending were Michael and Lyn Belisle, Lynn and Zach, Blake Olson, and Mary Hogan. The visitors are Foodstocking and adventuring their way across Texas and other states, soon to meet with the Marksberrys in Houston and Ellen and Roger in Dallas. Have a great trip, guys!

We make the obligatory pilgrimage to the Alamo, just next door to the Menger Hotel, while waiting for Blake to join us for brunch. (L to R, Lyn, Mary Hogan, Michael, Zach, and Lynn.)
As usual, brunch at the Menger is delicious, with something for everyone - good conversation about how and when each of us joined the Foodwine list.

(Michael, Blake, Mary, Lynn and Zach)

Mary and Blake discuss Xeriscape landcapes while Lyn and Zach talk about school, grandmothers, reptiles, and other interesting stuff. Lynn says that he is a great travelling companion, and we believe it - he is one smart kid!
Zach also has a wonderful talent - he can wiggle his ears - big time. He can even wiggle them independently. He also discovered the joys of combining bacon and Jello for dessert. What a great mini-Foodstock participant!
