Aromatherapy SIG (Special Interest Group) Schedule

Fall 2001 - Spring 2002

Lyn Belisle, Chairperson
(for more info, send me an e-mail)

These meetings cover a variety of topics about essential oils and their uses. Ongoing thanks to Frances Clifford of Bodytreats International in London who acts as friend and consultant to our group. A new feature of the meetings will be a "homework" assignment that you may bring to the next month's session.

The following list may be subject to change, but members will be notified in advance if that becomes necessary. Thanks, too, to Trica Cruz, who has helped put together this program list and will be guiding some of the meetings. For several of the activities, there may be a member cost for supplies which will be announced in advance. These meetings are noted with an asterisk (*). All meetings will continue to be held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the usual location. You are welcome to email me any time with questions - I am looking forward to these new programs with our group - Lyn.

September 25, 2001 - The Chemistry of Essential Oils, Part II. Dr. Bill Kurtin from Trinity University will continue his discussion of the scientific side of EO's and describe his recent distillation experiments.

October 23, 2001 - *Hands-on Gifts for Yourself and Friends Using Essential Oils. Trica Cruz will share some ideas for practical and pleasurable aromatherapy gifts in time for the holidays.

November 27, 2001 - Health, Holidays, Stress, and EO's. This program will focus on controlling such things as managing blood pressure with massage and essential oils. We may have a guest healthcare professional as a visiting facilitator.

January 29, 2002 (Please note change to the 5th Tuesday for this month only) - *New Blends for a New Year. Trica will share some blending experiments, and Lyn will review some common sense blending principles. Based on this information, members will have a "homework" assignment to make a signature aromatherapy blend and bring it to the February meeting for show-and-tell.

February 26, 2002 - Winter Blues? Discover the Blue Oils and why they are both rare and effective in the world of EO's.

March 26, 2002 - Cutting-edge Aromatherapy in the World of Mainstream Medicine. An examination of what hospitals and traditional health care professionals are learning about the effectiveness of EO's. Homework: members will construct a small "first aid" aromatherapy kit and bring it to the next meeting.

April 23, 2002 - no meeting - Viva Fiesta!

May 28, 2002 - EO's and Fine Cuisine. What's cooking with essential oils? What are some safety concerns? (Because of the Memorial Day Holiday, this date may be subject to change. Watch for updates.)
