A Day Trip to Port Aransas

There's not a lot better than a trip to the Texas Gulf Coast on a hot July day - and Port Aransas, one of the favorite destination for longtime San Antonions, is always a treat. Good friends Bill and Carol went with us on our Saturday excursion.

What is normally a two and a half hour trip turned into a four hour trip because of the extremely long ferry line -

-but we got a front spot on the ferry boat. Michael and Bill check out the seagulls while Carol looks for dolphins

Finally, we reached the island - here's the boat basin. Deep sea fishing is a small industry in Port A. For more info, follow this helpful link from Austin.

We headed for our favorite gumbo restaurant - unfortunately, after a 40 minute wait for a table and a 20 minute wait for waitstaff, we heard the beach calling and left without ordering - suppose that sometimes happens in tourist season.

The beach was beautiful - waves, people of all shapes, colors, ages and sizes, and - kites. We especially liked the display of kites that featured the Texas flag

After driving down the beach for 10 or 12 miles, we found Our Spot.

Bill and Carol's amazing canopy set up in five minutes and defined our shelter from the sun

With no lunch yet, we were hungry - Bill and Michael took the seining net into the surf to see what they could catch -
