A Posada is one of the traditional ways a new
baby is welcomed into our friends' family. The Posada celebration is
based on the story of Mary and Joseph's search for a place to stay on
the night of Jesus' birth. We arrived at the Ranchita near Bulverde
on a cold December afternoon and waited outside to sing the songs
which request entry into the shelter. Fortunately, there were hot
drinks for the circle of friends and family who came from all over
the state to welcome Baby William. The baby's grandfather sang the
part of the Innkeeper, and good friend Larry helped the baby's father
sing the part of Joseph.
William is
obviously delighted that so many people showed up for his
party.
Practicing the songs is easier with some hot
cider and the company of good friends.
The Innkeeper and Joseph
sing the songs which will allow all of the weary
travellers admittance to the house.
Everyone joins in,
hoping for the traditional tamales and warm
shelter.
