Ruidoso is a lovely town - except there are chain-saw carved bears everywhere. This guy was outside of the Ruidoso Public Library where I went to check my e-mail.
But there are other kinds of art and artists there - here is Michael in the studio of Dave McGary, bronze sculptor, whose realistic painted and patinaed work is known world-wide.
Through a studio window, a worker is helping to assemble a life-sized sculpture by attaching bronze lost-wax-cast feathers to the impressive figure.
There are other area attractions, as well - here, we visit the Tularosa Vineyards. Chris, our host, describes the local grapes that are used for their wine production.
There are also pistachio trees growing near the grape vines - we get a close look at how pistachios are grown and then buy several bags down the road at a local produce stand - yum.

It seemed incredible that less than 20 miles from such a lush vineyard is the White Sands National Park. The landscape looks as if it had come from another planet. And yet the area is teeming with all sorts of adapted life and plants that Bill checks out through his binoculars.
