SAN ANTONIO FOODSTOCK, MARCH 15-17, 2002

DAY THREE, SUNDAY: Brunch with Barbara and Blake at Beto's Empanada Bar - beautiful weather, great food.

Next stop - Becker Vineyards in Fredricksburg, the Texas Hill Country capitol. Our friendly pourer awaits.

Ramesh takes serious notes. If you haven't visited his new website, it's a treat! We learn a lot about wines from the notes he posts.

The view from the porch at the vineyard is typically Hill Country, and it's almost time for the wildflowers to bloom.

We spend a little time on the porch relaxing with a glass of Becker Claret.

Last stop of the day - Grape Creek Vineyard, down the road - what a nice surprise. Last visit there was not particularly memorable, but this time was a lot more fun.

Our server, Lee Ann, was smart and funny, and she introduced us to the Grape Creek Merlot 2000, which blew us all away with its complexity - a future medal winner, for sure.

Home at last, and like Max, the new Foodwine Kitten, naps were in order. What a great Foodstock! And here's to our friends in Palm Springs who had a simultaneous and equally wonderful Foodstock gathering over the weekend. Cheers!
