Most of you who are familiar with my work and teaching know about Painting with Fire, and I thank you so much for your encouragement and feeedback!
So what will I be teaching this year in PWF?
Here's the first workshop - it's a serene fusion of Sumi-e painting and encaustic layering.
I've never thought to combine these two practices, but after a personal "eureka" about how well they work together, here is the result! This is one of those explorations that you can do very simply with just India ink and beeswax. The results are elegant, centering, and expressive.
Here's the second workshop - it's as mesmerizing partnership of ancient technique and contemporary digital innovation called Synthography & Encaustic.
You'll learn how to transform your thoughts into luminous, totally original images from text prompts. You'll learn transformative digital tools that help you visualize your ideas in unimaginable ways and use those ideas and images in layered collages that speak of magical realism.
My classes are just a small part of the many incredible workshops offered in Painting with Fire, where 27 instructors bring a wide range of techniques and perspectives to encaustic and mixed media. With 57 unique lessons throughout the year, there’s truly something for everyone—whether you're drawn to texture, layering, mark-making, sculptural forms, or unexpected material combinations.
