ABOUT THIS WORK BY LYN BELISLE

This is a five-piece series called Terra Verde. Each piece is constructed from "shards" of earthenware clay that are made and fired separately, then assembled together by observing the piece in progress and adding or subtracting on an intuitive level.

Finding the right piece for the assemblages is akin to dowsing with a pendulum – the small hand-built clay shards seem to gravitate toward their places of belonging, guided by a sense of rightness and trust in the process.

Besides earthenware clay, most pieces contain metal, fiber, sticks, canvas and/or wood, stones and beads. The pieces are an extension of my NeoSanto (personal saint) concept which I’ve taught and shared in several national workshops.

This series was begun and completed in my studio during the first three weeks of October 2020.
